Kailash Manasarovar Yatra by Road – All routes from India

Mt Kailash is in Tibet, the autonomous region of China. While most of the routes for Kailash Manasarovar yatra by road are via Nepal and China, India offers two roads for you to take on your journey. However, you will have to go via the route that is mutually permitted by both governments. Here are the two routes to reach your divine destination:

Road To Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Via Sikkim

The Kailash Manasarovar Road via the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim is much tame than any other route taking you to Kailash Mansarovar. With a duration of around 21 days, this route takes you through the vast Tibetan Plateau. This route is only operated by the Govt of India and it’s very expensive.

Kailash Manasarovar yatra Route from Uttarakhand via Kumaon

The duration of this Kailash Manasarovar Road is around 19 days. You will start from Delhi and go through various important sites like Patal Bhuvaneshwar, Narayan Ashram, etc. You can take the route through Johar Valley, and Dharchula – Tawaghat – Lipulekh pass to Kailash. While most of the Himalayan passes in Kumaun and Garhwal can give access to this sacred mountain, pilgrims from India are permitted to go for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra tour by road via Lipulekh pass. The pilgrimage to Kailash is 30 Kms. to its south. It is run exclusively by the Kumaun Mandal Vikash Nigam (KMVN) – a government organization working in collaboration with the Government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and the Chinese Government. This Kailash Mansarovar Yatra tour by road is also operated by the Government of India and it’s very expensive.

Kailash Manasarovar Yatra by Road from Kathmandu

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by Road from Kathmandu is the most preferred and cost-effective also less time-consuming. It requires only 13 to 14 days to complete the entire tour of Kailash Manasarovar Yatra by Road from Kathmandu. The road condition is excellent as compared to other by-road options. You enter Chinese territory only after 8 hours of drive from Kathmandu.

New Road for Kailash Manasarovar

India has completed a New road for Kailash Manasarovar. This New road for Kailash Manasarovar can cut down your journey time by at least 6 days. This 80 Km stretch connects Lipulekh Pass with Ghatiabgarh. This Kailash Manasarovar yatra route by road confluences with Lipulekh pass at a height of 17, 000 feet. This Kailash Manasarovar new route allows the pilgrims to complete 80% of their journey through the Indian soil itself but the cost will remain high as the cost is always decided by the Chinese authorities. The tour on this road also organize by Government of India.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra tour by Road – Which Route to Choose

The best and preferable Kailash Manasarovar Yatra by road option is from Nepal. In this route, the duration is very less and very cost-effective. You don’t need to go through any selection process if you opt for this route. Compared to government routes, the Nepal route is less lengthy, more affordable, and does not have many rules and regulations.

The Kailash Manasarovar Road via Sikkim is good, too, when it comes to elderly people. But this route is longer and takes more than 20 days’ time; also, the cost is high as it’s a route operated by the Govt of India. On the other hand, traveling through the Kailash Manasarovar yatra route from Uttarakhand shortens your journey time, as Kailash lies closer to Uttarakhand. Besides constructing the new Kailash Manasarovar Road, the connectivity is made smoother. It must be noted that the route from Uttarakhand takes 18 plus days to complete and also involves a few days of trekking. Additionally, if you chose the Uttarakhand or Sikkim route then you need to apply for your participation; after selection, you need to do a health check-up then you are allowed to do the yatra.
