Cooped up fairly close to the Chinese border with India, Mount Kailash is situated directly opposite the sacred Lake Manasarovar, one of the great three sacred lakes of Tibet. It lies to the north of the main road from Lhasa to Xinjiang. Darchen is the closest village to Mount Kailash. The distance from Lhasa to Darchen is approximately 1,309 kilometers. Several trekkers and pilgrims take the overland route for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra as the journey includes visits to Mount Everest Base Camp and other popular attractions along the way.

Your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route now will turn south off the G318. Now, you will take the Zhufeng Road, heading to the famous Everest Base Camp and the Rongbuk Monastery.
